One of the benefits of taking a holiday to France is that you will be able to treat your body to nutritious meals. The French are famous for taking in a lot of cheese, dairy products, and wine yet, they are still capable of maintaining fit figures. You can hardly find any overweight locals when you tour around the cities. What could be the secret ingredient to eating as heartily and as healthily as the people of France?
For one, they never skip meals. They always take breakfast, even if it is a cup of yoghurt, a handful of nuts, or a piece of fruit. Second, they eat smaller portions. Taking a full course lunch or dinner is common in the country, but the servings of the food are limited to a size that is just enough to make you full. Third, they take their time when they are dining and they enjoy the simple pleasure of partaking in a baguette and cheese. You will hardly see anyone gobbling down his salad in this country.
Fourth, the French take bite-size proportions from their dish and chew their meal well before swallowing it. This practice makes it easier for the body to digest and absorb the nutrients as they are already broken down into smaller pieces. Fifth, they are not known to snack during coffee breaks. Sixth, they like to have their dishes made out of fresh ingredients and steer away from processed products. They will spend time cooking for supper instead of popping an instant dinner into the microwave oven. Lastly, they like to walk. Whether it is to the café five blocks away, or from the seventh floor going to the front lobby, most people in France will forego the elevator or public transport to get some sunshine and exercise.
