While there are many great attractions in Goa, these are the five things to do and see while in Goa.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is located in the city of Old Goa and is easily one of the most beautiful churches in the world. The Basilica of Bom Jesus was constructed in 1605 and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church is one of the best displays of baroque architecture you will find in India, and it is also the home of the remains of Saint Francis Xavier. The casket containing the body is on display everyday in the church.

Goa State Museum

The Goa State Museum is located in the city of Panjim, and was established in 1996. There are currently over 8000 artefacts on display in the museum and they are separated into 12 different exhibits and galleries. Most of the items displayed in the Goa State Museum are Hindu and Jain artefacts. These artefacts include paintings, sculptures, carvings and manuscripts. These paintings and sculptures are displayed in their own gallery in the museum.

Naval Aviation Museum

The Naval Aviation Museum is another great museum located in Goa, India. The Naval Aviation Museum is located in the city of Bogmalo and was established in 1998. The museum is dedicated to displaying the advancement of India's aircraft and navy throughout the history of the country. The Naval Aviation Museum consists of an outdoor exhibit and an gallery located inside. The outdoor exhibit features 12 different airplanes and helicopters that were used by India's Air Force. The inside galleries show how the Indian Navy has advanced and evolved. It also discusses all of the major conflicts that the Indian Navy was involved in fighting.

Goa Science Centre

One of the newest museums in Goa is the Goa Science Centre, and it was opened at the end of 2001. The Goa Science Centre is located in the city of Panjim. The goal of the Goa Science Centre is to get the Indian youth excited about science by displaying exciting things that can be done using science. Most of the exhibits are displayed outside and have an interactive feature to help teach the visitors about each exhibit. The inside of the Goa Science Center features an auditorium that shows various science shows throughout the day.

Old Goa

After you visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa, you should explore the rest of the amazing city. The entire city has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site to help preserve the area. The entire city was abandoned in the 1700s because of the plague and still does not have any permanent inhabitants. There is no better place in India to see such beautifully preserved ancient buildings and churches.
